NEW! Discovering “NOTAN” in the Landscape: A Graphite & Pen Field Sketching Class
Jul 16 - Jul 17, 2020
$160.00Landscapes can be overwhelming – trees, shrubs, buildings, clouds – there is so much out there! Take a deep breath, it’s not as hard as you think. NOTAN is the Japanese word meaning “dark/light”. In this class, discover how to look at the landscape through new eyes by approaching the scene as a harmony and arrangement of light and dark shapes. Using simple tools, Marjorie guides you to go beyond direct imitation of what you see by simplifying “things” into tonal relationships. Like magic, shapes become forms and forms become landscapes. With basic tools – pencil and ball point pen – learn new sketching techniques and gain new artistic confidence as you fill your sketchbooks with enticing black and white scenes.
