Join the Rocky Mountain Conservancy and the Resource Stewardship Division to help restore Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park!
In the winter, spring, and summer of 2016, the Moraine Park area experienced 14.65 acres of montane meadow and ponderosa pine disturbance from the replacement of an extensive waterline system. The disturbance created five separate disturbances of various sizes that required seeding and erosion control.
The site was restored by seeding and planting in 2017 and 2018, and now there is excess mulch that has been laying in the park since 2017.
The main focus of this one day project is transporting excess mulch from Moraine Park near the Kaley Cottages parking lot back to the mulch storage area. This project will be labor intensive as it will require filling buckets with mulch and loading the mulch into the bed of a truck. Hand tools such as shovels and pitchforks will be used to manually load the buckets. There is also erosion waddles that need to be taken out of the ground, and the material distributed. We will rake, seed and mulch the area where the pile of mulch lay for years.
Who: Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and able to lift and carry 25 lbs up to 1/4 mile using wheelbarrows
