Cascade Cottages: We Did It!

Concluding a one-year fundraising effort, the Rocky Mountain Conservancy and the Trust for Public Land (TPL) announced that they have purchased the largest remaining privately held property within Rocky Mountain National Park. Thanks to our generous donors and members, a gorgeous gem has been added to this national treasure!

Cascade Cottages Listed
in the National Register of Historic Places

On August 27, 2020, the Keeper of the National Register entered the Cascade Cottages Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places. The Rocky Mountain Conservancy provided funding for the nomination, which was prepared by Carl McWilliams, of Cultural Resource Historians, LLC. In 2016, after nearly two years of negotiations, the property was initially sold to the Trust for Public Lands (TPL). Significant funds for this purchase were also provided by the Conservancy, the Larimer County Open Lands Program, the Estes Valley Land Trust, and the Town of Estes Park. In 2017, TPL conveyed the property to the National Park Service.

Cascade Cottages: Next Steps

Soon, the Cascade Cottages property, including 14 tourist cabins dating back as far as the 1920’s, will be transferred to the park. With your continued support, the Conservancy will play a major role assisting the park to determine the best use of these facilities.
