National Trails Act 50th Anniversary

In 2018, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the National Trails Act. This piece of legislation established the National Scenic and National Recreation Trails System, a network of long-distance trails extending more than 100 miles. These include the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, the Oregon National Historic Trail, and the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (which travels through Rocky Mountain National Park). These special designations ensure the conservation of these trails system.

To celebrate this anniversary and the trails the act protects, the Conservancy will host a volunteer trail project in Rocky Mountain National Park. Join Conservancy staff and NPS trail crews to protect Rocky’s trails by maintaining safe and sustainable access and restoring damaged and degraded areas.
