Bettie Course: Rec 1 Avalanche Certification

Join Dusty and Carlie as they venture into Rocky Mountain National Park for an intense educational experience that culminates in a Rec-1 Avy certification.
This Bettie Course is offered to women, and individuals that identify as women, in collaboration with KMAC in Estes Park, CO. This experience is a three-day course that begins by providing a basic foundation for understanding avalanche hazards and developing safe travel practices in and around avalanche terrain. The goal is for students to learn the essentials of snow-pack science, avalanche rescue, terrain analysis, and to give each student a solid framework for making informed decisions. This course includes in-person instruction, video and discussion, and at least 16 hours of time in the outdoors. This course is all in-person in Estes Park, CO.

Who: Adults over 18 years old, individuals who can ski a Blue Diamond at a resort
What to Bring:
- Warm winter layers, including a winter hat and gloves or mittens
- Winter boots, waterproof is recommended
- A daypack
- Plenty of water (at least 2 L each day)
- High energy snacks
- Dry socks and spare shoes for afterwards
Where: Meet at the Estes Park Visitor Center at 500 Big Thompson Ave, Estes Park, and travel together into Rocky Mountain National Park in Conservancy vehicles
When: Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday, February 24 through 26, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day
